The Peace alliance
When Shasta had mentioned in vol 3 that Warren had a circle of allies, I knew I was going to need to arrange a last minute group of new characters. Out of sheer laziness, I pulled out a bunch of people from old projects I worked on back in high school.
Skyar Skyberg
You can tell by just looking at Skyar that I designed him back when I was in high school. When I look at his old artwork, my eyeballs just melt in horror. Despite how much I hate how he looks now, I didn't want to change my original vision of him too much because I didn't want to lose the mentality I had when I created him, even though, right now I have no idea what I was thinking back then. I believe he was designed to look like white and black clouds, hence why his name is "clouds" in Swedish.
His concept, along with a few other characters, came to me during one of my science classes. Back then I was interested in building a Sci-Fi world for that cast, but I'm not a dedicated Sci-Fi fan so I kept dropping and picking up the project on and off. In his original backstory, he was a runaway and Skyar Skyberg wasn't his real name (hence why it sounds so phony). I actually can't remember what his real name was- I just remember that he was actually a naturally curly blonde. I believe he was trying to out run his half-brother, but eventually Philippe reunited them and the two reconciled. Skyar's original personality was supposed to be the energetic comic relief, but that element of his character didn't make it to his NPC incarnation. |
Above is the last updated sketch I did of Skyar before I left high school. He was one of my very first characters to ever sport fashionably fierce eyelashes (something that newer characters like Flora later adapted). Below is a picture of what Skyar's hair looks like without his head band. He is self conscious about how his hair looks and prefers to keep it covered up.

I wanted to look at this new version of Skyar in a more serious manner. He is not only a leader, but a father and can be just as controlling as Warren when it comes to protecting the people he loves.
|
The outfit on the right is a redesign of his default outfit. I wanted him to seem more like a vocaloid. It maintains the same blue color scheme only I made sure to use more dark shades of blue, unlike his first design. The outfit on the left is Skyar's debut outfit in vol 7. It is something I threw together, trying to keep within Skyar's theme.
|
Above is Skyar's profile art. Here I was fighting between making his hair bouncy or straight. If it wasn't already obvious, all of Skyar's outfits show off his midsection, although I feel like I made it even more revealing than even my teenage self had intended. Despite the fashion, I don't really imagine Skyar being perfectly skinny (as opposed to someone who is athletically trim like Simon), although it can be extremely difficult to remember to draw him a little round.
|
These are all of the outfits I pulled straight out of my archive of outfits that I saved from high school. None of them are modified. The one above is the outfit Skyar returns in vol 8 and the bottom two outfits were for Skyar's special. I chose the outfit on the bottom left because it looks like the outfit above. The outfit on the bottom right, I have no idea what it was for, but my brain registered it as pajamas.

Philippe DuPrie
|
Philippe’s original personality was very similar to the kind of personality that Warren has now, but once I was forced to adapt NPC Skyar to a new personality, Philippe’s automatically accommodated to the change. Suddenly the couple had swapped roles and the plot was born.
Philippe’s hair originally was completely circular when I first drew him. Later I made his hair a smidgen longer to make him look different from other characters I had created in the past. He later adapted a left handed balloon curl from another character that I destroyed recently. That character also had round shaped green hair.

Nanette
Nanette's design came to me when I saw my best friend in high school shove her sunglasses into her hair and mess it up. I thought it was adorable. Nanette came from her own story where she was the main character, but I ended up taking apart her project and integrating it into other projects with similar premises. She never had a real set fashion default.
These outfits I drew off the top of my head for her NPC incarnation. She was always a kind of brutish girl, but I decided her NPC version would be more business oriented. I can't remember what kind of love interest she had, so I'd like to believe she's a single self-made NPC woman, now . |
Dominque DuPrie
She looked too much like another character that I made years ago, so I disassembled that character and allowed Dominique to adapt her hairstyle.
|
Dominique has always been my favorite design from the cast of that old Sci-Fi series. She was originally supposed to be Philippe’s reasonable younger sister. I'm actually a little mad that I had to change her personality, but I really needed to define her from Ivy and Agnes.
Dominique had a specific outfit that I love so much, I couldn't possibly update it, so I ended up archiving it on Patreon along with the new outfit I designed for Phillipe. |
Taggart
Taggart came from the same Scifi story that Skyar, Philippe, and Dominique came from. By process of elimination, he ended up becoming the love interest of Skyar's brother (another pairing I wasn't that thrilled about, but I didn't bother breaking them apart). He underwent a bunch of redesigns because my sister ended up making a character that looked too much like my first version of him, and you know how much I can't stand having two characters look the same. I was also afraid he seemed to much like Simon, so I gave him sandy blonde hair and a natural tan.
His outfit was originally supposed to be green, white, and black, but my sister didn't get the memo and just made him whatever colors wherever she wanted them, much to my horror. I was pressed for time so I couldn't change anything.

He was designed to resemble a tulip. He originally was very passive, but I didn't really feel like that personality fit his NPC incarnation at all.

Patience
I have no scans of my original pictures of Patience, so I had to draw her off the top of my head. Patience came from her own story and even was the title character. She was originally a mouthy girl, but I didn't really feel like that fit her NPC incarnation. I can clearly remember who her love interest was in her original story, so I'd like to believe she's still married to him in the NPC world. His design was ridiculous, but I loved his anti-social personality.
